Root Canal Treatment

What It Is

Root canal treatment (endodontics) saves an infected or severely decayed tooth by removing damaged pulp (nerve) from inside the tooth, cleaning and disinfecting the root canals, then sealing them. Eliminates pain and infection while preserving your natural tooth. Crowned afterward for protection. Modern techniques make it virtually painless.

Signs You Need Root Canal

  • Severe toothache (spontaneous or when biting)
  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot/cold
  • Swollen, tender gums near tooth
  • Pimple/abscess on gums
  • Tooth discoloration (darkening)
  • Deep decay or large filling close to nerve

The Procedure

1

Anesthesia: Local anesthetic numbs area completely. No pain during procedure

2

Access & Cleaning: Small opening made. Infected pulp removed. Canals cleaned, shaped, disinfected

3

Filling: Canals filled with rubber-like material (gutta-percha). Tooth sealed

4
